Trader Joe's Wine: A Love Story

A customer gets more than she bargained for when she goes wine shopping at Trader Joe's. Jeff, this one's for you.

Dude. Hilarious. I love the part about the Aglianico. So true. Where did you find that, or did you create it?

I created that after you made the comment about overly ripe oak flavored grape juice a couple days ago. I think I'll make one on Costco next. The pushy reps who come in every few weeks and the 90 point shelf talkers are ripe for some satire. But I don't think I can do better than this. TJ's is a big fat target when it comes to their wines, mostly. I did like their Emergence Rhone white, though.

Speaking of pushy Cosco reps, I had one follow me around the entire wine section yesterday. I told him I was just looking but he kept popping up. Every turn I made there he was, ready to tell me how great of a deal this one was or to ask, "Oh, you really like Italian wines, eh? French it is then, right?" Really felt like I was buying a used car. It was like he had just snuck in the back room to bang out a couple lines and now he needed someone to babble his mindless, stacatto hard sells.

I just got bit by a Costco rep this weekend. Normally I would have been able to pass on by, but she caught my wife's ear and now I've got a couple South African wines in the cellar that I really don't have much interest in exploring. Oh well, at least they were inexpensive.

Great post- I've never seen that text-to-speech video creation done before.

Funny, I too have gotten "the look" from those dudes before. Normally, they seem to be hawking Cameron Hughes. In truth, I kind of like Cameron Hughes...if you're going to drink something so modern, it might as well be cheap. But the reps?!?! WTF. Multiple times, I've been doggedly followed, with the rep asking if "I'd be interested in a 'nice' Napa Cab," or a "90 pointer--Robert Parker" Yikes. They even give me the eye when I tell them I'm just looking for the 6 or so wines that might potentially be interesting, and I have zero interest in what they're hawking.
