The 100 Point Scale is now the 100* Point Scale

Robert Parker has done it again! The man who popularized the 100 point scale had added an * to wines tasted from barrel that comprise the greatest he's ever tasted. Because of grade inflation, it's really a 10 point scale anyway--90 to 100--so you gotta give the man credit for attempting to decompress things. Eventually 100 will be the new 90, though, and in a few years I figure we'll have this:

100
100*
100**
100***
100****
100*****
100******
100*******
100********
100*********
100**********

That was much better snark than I would have come up with. I was thinking about the ridiculousness of the apostrophe today, but you said it way better and minus copius amounts of profanity. Bravo! Perhaps this calls for cracking an 09 Cos d'Estournal...oh wait...it's not even bottled yet.

Funny... I personally think number scores should go up to 98. Anything that would be rated 99 or 100 should just be labeled "classic" by the reviewer. Words can describe how great it is from there.

It would be great to throw a little extra subjectivity in there... Like arguing the superiority of Beatles vs Stones vs Dylan or anything else from the world of art...
